Amazingly intricate papercut illustrations by Lisa Lloyd

You鈥檇 be forgiven for thinking that the intricate worlds contained in images were the product of some digital wizardry; and impressed to know that every detail is painstakingly created by hand.

Lloyd now works as a freelance designer and illustrator, having begun her career as an After Effects animator, followed by a live action direction for the music industry. She was later appointed creative director and co-owner of Soho-based animation production company Mr and Mrs Smith. Her client list to date is impressive, boasting the likes of Waitrose, The Guardian, Grolsch, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Disney, Hershey, Universal music, Comic Relief, Mother and Sony.聽

Though she works across branding, animation and illustration, today we鈥檙e focusing on her stunning papercut works and models, which are created by hand and photographed before the images are composited together to create the final piece. A favourite of ours is her new work for Waitrose Weekend Magazine, an adorable paper blue tit commissioned to mark the start of the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch campaign.

Another equally adorable commission for the same client saw Lloyd illustrate the supermarket鈥檚 Frushi product. 鈥淚nstead of fish the rolls are filled with pineapple, melon and other fruit; surrounded by coconut,鈥 Lloyd explains. 鈥淭he image was used for the cover, all the elements are made from paper - apart from the tray and chopsticks!鈥
